Gasket failures can be attributed to a number of causes:
- Joint design
- Gasket design
- Production procedure or execution
- Installation methods or procedure
- Abnormal running environment, i.e. detonation, thermal movement
- Weakening of the flange structure during an engine rebuild
- Various other causes
During the course of my experience in running an engine and environmental test facility as well as handling numerous warranty related claims, I have seen and studied hundreds of gasket failures.
