Simple beater addition or compressed sheet packings work for most applications. More complex gaskets, in particular cylinder head gaskets, the addition of one or multiple enhancements are needed.
The addition of many of these enhancements are used to distribute the available loads provided by the application’s bolting or fastener system.
Grommets or armors or even wire rings are used around combustion openings in order to contain the pressure generated by the combustion process. Screen printed elastomers or molded grommet inserts are used to enhance fluid seals. Coatings are used to improve surface sealing or provide anti-stick properties to the gasket. Perforated or solid steel cores provide dimensional stability and rigidity to the gasket and are necessary for all cylinder head gaskets.
